Pomona

It was in historical Pomona that in 1958 local man Bruce Samuels ran up nearby Mount Cooroora to cure a hangover. Boasting he did it in less than an hour, his pub mates dared him to do it again. He did! And this was the genesis of the King of the Mountain Race Festival held at Mount Cooroora every year.

Did you know Pomona was the administrative centre of Noosa Shire from 1909 to 1985 when Council moved to Tewantin? Learn the history of Noosa Shire at the Pomona Museum. The Majestic Theatre still operates as the world’s longest running silent cinema and the Pomona Country Markets, are held every Saturday.

Kin Kin

Nestled amongst local dairy farms, picturesque Kin Kin also produces much of Noosa’s famous fresh regional produce. It is home to nature lovers, foodies, artists and farmers.
Well worth visiting, Kin Kin neighbours Boreen Point and Lake Cootharaba, part of the Upper Noosa River network and entry to the Noosa Everglades.

Lake Cootharaba and Boreen Point.

Lake Cootharaba, is a magnificent waterway and part of the Noosa River system.

It is the largest lake on the Noosa River. It is also the gateway to the upper Noosa River and the Noosa Everglades. The lake’s shallow water is superb for kids and popular for kayaking, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing and fishing.

The lake-side village of Boreen Point is a delightful little settlement on a raised point of land overlooking its western shores.

The village has a number of attractions including local galleries, lakeside beaches and parklands as well as the iconic and historical Apollonian Hotel.

Noosa Everglades

North of Lake Cootharaba and hidden within the Cooloola section of the Great Sandy National Park is the Noosa Everglades. The Noosa Everglades represent an ancient waterway that has existed unchanged, for thousands of years.

Clear fresh water tannin-stained by nearby paperbarks, emerges from the Cooloola National Park to meet the tidal salt waters of the Noosa River.

Known as the River of Glass because of its picture-perfect reflections, The Noosa Everglades has to be one of the most tranquilly beautiful places on earth.
